What needs to be done about climate change

Kreis Wesel/ Moers. (pst) Von Klimaschutz hat jeder schon gehört: Rad statt Auto fahren und Licht ausschalten beim Verlassen des Raumes. Aber was Klimafolgenanpassungen sind, wissen die Wenigsten. Mit diesem Thema beschäftigt sich Beatrice Sy, die im Rathaus der Stadt Moers für das kreisweite Projekt Evolving Regions zuständig ist. Ziel ist es, die beteiligten Regionen klimarobust zu machen. Starkregen und weitere Extremwetter sind eine Auswirkung des Klimawandels und fordern Städte und Kommunen heraus, sich den Klimabedingungen anzupassen. Akteurinnen und Akteure sollen motiviert werden in den beteiligten Regionen entsprechende Anpassungen umzusetzen. Dafür werden verschiedene Bereiche, wie Bauleitplanung, Deichverbände, Energie- und Wasserversorgung, Katastrophenschutz, Klimaschutzmanagement und Wasserwirtschaftsverbände und, und, und… miteinander vernetzt. Seit Ende Februar arbeitet Beatrice Sy daran, die Akteure im Kreis Wesel zusammenzubringen, ein Netzwerk aufzubauen und anstehende Veranstaltungen zu organisieren.

Networking and collecting ideas

A first test run has already taken place – because of Corona on a digital path. Various stakeholders from the above-mentioned areas have collected on the topic of infrastructure, which effects of climate change are already visible. Then they listed visions and measures to adapt to these climate impacts. An estimated 40 to 60 participants will then meet during the autumn run to gather ideas and develop measures on all selected topics, agriculture, health and infrastructure. Climate impact adaptation, for example, could include the creation of floodplains or roof greening, which would prevent the sewersystem from being overloaded in heavy rains.

It is important to bring together the actors who have previously worked in isolation, to accompany joint work processes in order to develop concrete concepts of action for the future. Moers and all municipalities in the district of Wesel are to be preserved as livable and sustainable.
