Climate change adaptation can be very easy and start right on your own doorstep. That is why the district of Minden-Lübbecke has launched the Climate Trees campaign. Citizens were able to order a “climate tree” free of charge in September 2021 and were advised on planting and care (prerequisite is a plot of land in the structural interior). The climate trees were a complete success! Due to the high demand, the project budget was exhausted after only a few days. That is why the campaign will be launched again next year.

Trees not only produce oxygen, but also bind CO2 from the atmosphere and settle it in their wood for a long time. They thus serve as a natural greenhouse gas sink and actively contribute to climate protection. Trees are also important in terms of climate adaptation, because they provide shade and cooling through evaporative cold, regulate precipitation and protect against erosion and flooding. They also provide food, habitat and shelter for animals and filter dust and particles from the air.
