As part of the Evolving Regions (ER) project, the German Institute of Urban Affairs (Difu) in cooperation with the Social Research Centre and the Education Centre for the Supply and Waste Management Industry (BEW) has developed a workshop series for the planning and implementation of regional climate adaptation processes. The workshop series consists of five events in the period from September 2021 to April 2022. In it, the participants are taught how cross-regional adaptation processes can be initiated, financed and carried out in a structured way with the help of the roadmap method.

Due to the increasingly noticeable consequences of climate change, climate adaptation is becoming an important building block in municipal planning and regional development. Since climate change and extreme weather events do not stop at municipal borders, regional approaches in particular can offer high added value for the actors.

The focus of the methodology is on empowering and supporting the relevant local actors. Starting with the clarification of the order and the planning of the implementation, the workshop series goes on to the demarcation of the field of action of climate adaptation and to the capture of a vision for the future. The third workshop teaches how tailor-made climate adaptation measures can be developed and how the regional roadmap can be created. In the fourth workshop, practical examples from the regions in the Evolving Regions project will be presented, before the fifth and final event will show financing and funding opportunities as well as practical tips for the start.

In practice, at the end of such a process, a tailor-made roadmap for cross-regional climate adaptation is created, which enables successful and targeted implementation and can make the region climate-robust.

The workshops will take place on the following dates:

The workshop series is primarily aimed at employees of districts, cities and municipalities, especially in rural regions in Germany, who want to initiate and carry out a cross-regional climate adaptation process in their region. In the same way, the offer is also aimed at representatives of regional or intermunicipal associations, intermediary organizations or other regional cooperations, e.g. in the areas of regional planning, economy or tourism.

Further information, also for registration, can be found in the event flyer below and on the website of the BEW and difu. We will also inform you about the workshop on Twitter.
