The 6th European Climate Change Adaptation Conference 2023 (ECCA) took place in Dublin from 19 to 21 June. Katharina Schrot from TU Dortmund University and Leona Aileen Eichel from the Minden-Lübbecke district were able to give an insight into the results and learnings from Evolving Regions during a session.
THE ECCA
The aim of ECCA 2023, as in previous ECCA conferences, was to promote adaptation to climate change by presenting solutions, sharing knowledge, creating links and stimulating dialogue on how to act more and faster at all levels. This year’s conference was organised by the joint programme initiative “Connecting Climate Knowledge for Europe” (JPI Climate) in cooperation with the MAGICA project supported by the European Commission. The two-day face-to-face event was attended by a wide range of different stakeholders, including climate adaptation experts, scientists, policy makers, companies and many more. Various events, workshops and discussions were held within the framework of six different topics. More information about the ECCA can be found here: https://ecca2023.eu/
The conference focused primarily on tools that have been developed in science and are intended to support adaptation in practice. In addition, the health consequences that are favored by the effects of climate change were considered. The main focus was on the heat impact of vulnerable groups.
ER-SESSION: “FROM LOCAL PROJECTS TO PRACTICAL IMPACTS”
Together with scientists from University College Cork, Ireland and Wageningen University, the Netherlands, Katharina Schrot and Leona Aileen Eichel organized a session in the field of “Policy Implementation”. Under the theme “From Local Projects to Practical Impacts – Strengthening Local Resilience for Pan-European Policy Making”, insights were gained into various projects and instruments in the field of climate adaptation. In a subsequent World Café group discussion, participants had the opportunity to explore the different systems and approaches to climate action and to discuss how systemic change can be initiated and what factors and obstacles make it difficult or favor it.
We would like to thank the organizers for the successful and successful event and for the opportunity to present our project.
